CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA Animal films are lovely, I think, such as Lassy Come Home. It is a story about a collie dog, who loved his home and his little Master. Storys of horses are nice.

I do not go to the cinema very often but when I do, I like either a slapstick comedy or an educational film. I like a comedy because as well as being entertaining it gives an amusing thought afterwards. I do not like gangster films because they are silly, and seem to me not true to life, though the same thing applies to comedy, it is amusing.
Of educational films Henry V was the best I have seen, it was true to Shakespeare's play, beautifully coloured and very well acted with Laurence Olivier playing the part of the king, he also produced and directed the film, which seems to me to be a very fine effort. This film teaches us history as well as Literature and the speech and clothing of the time. This has made me want to see more of Shakespeare's works.
I have often enjoyed films starring Sonja Henie as she skates so beautifully. I also enjoy musical or dancing films.
My Likes and Dislikes of Films

There are many films that I have not seen, and I am just going to try and criticise the ones that I have seen. I have seen Bambi and I like it very much, because it is pretty and interesting. If the speaking were in plain English it would be very nice, but in American slang you can't hear what they say, and it's a nuisance, because you can't conscentrait on the film if you are trying to listen to the words very carefully, which is very difficult. The films all about people dancing with nothing on, are very silly because they just haven't got any story at all, so are love films about girls calling sailors whome they don't know at all 'my darling' or 'my sweetheart', because it is very insinsere. I don't mind the ones about really truly love, not gushing.
There are some very good films going round. The Song of Bernadette and The Great Dicktator are two of these, but the name of Bernaddete is quite spoilt by being Americanised. But we have to put up with it because it is in the fashion.
Time taken, three-quarters of an hour.
Apology. Note. I am afraid it is untidy because I am writing with a crossed nib because all my others are at school.
