CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA pulling out a hair from a workman's beard! You also see his great laboratory, and how fond his men were of him. Last you see the streets lighted up for the first time, and how angry are the gas people, when they know he has succeeded by using a cotton for his light. Other films I like are animal films, the one I am going to write about is called Bambi. It is, I think, the best Walt Disney film yet. Bambi is a little deer. He grows up in the green forest, and has many little friends, including a rabbit, and a sleepy old owl, who fluffs himself up when praised. The rabbit showes him how to slide, on ice in winter and he suddenly sits down, with all four legs stretched out, and he has quite a job to get to land again. One day he loses his mother, and sees his great, splendid father, the prince of the forest. He falls in love with his cousin, and fights a stag, and wins. A fire starts, with a hunt at the same time, he jumps an enormous quarry, to get away from the hounds, and meets the fire the other side. His father rescues him, the fire goes, and you see them, father and son, standing on the top of the cliff, then the father walks away, and Bambi is left, the Prince of the Forest. It is a lovely film. 21. V.A. The sort of films I like: biographys, comedies, stories of animals. A Biography Madame Curie Is the life story of Madame Curie and her great discovery of Radium. She was Polish by birth but went to Paris to study Science. After many years of experimenting, hard work and many disappointments she discovered radium. I liked this film because it was a true and interesting story. It showed the little ups and downs of life well. A Comedy Gold Rush. Was the story of the rush for gold in Alaska. It was sheer nonsense which only appeals to some people. My taste in funny films is that the actors make me laugh with their antics and not with their conversation. I find that the older styles of dancing and songs are more to my liking than the up-to-date jazz and crooning. Animal Pictures Lassie Come Home. The story of a dog that was very true to life. 127
