THE ADULT AND THE CINEMA No doubt this has affected me, for it is my ambition some day, to see for myself the actual place, if there were any, where these films were shot, purpously to view the scenery, and see if the spell that is cast over me in the cineama takes effect on the actual setting. Had it not been for the films I may never have been the witness of such awe-inspiring spectacles. That is all I can say about question one. Question two is quite easy to answer because only once has film appeared in my dreams. This may seem peculiar to you but it was soon after seeing a film starring my favourite actor, Humphrey Bogart. The dream did not actually concern the film itself but the actor, Humphrey Bogart. I dreamt I met him personally and had the honour of conversing with him. This vision presented him as a calm common homely sort of person, and I am of the opinion that he is what I dreamt. I presume the reason of this dream is that my flare for films of Humphrey Bogart causes him to stand out in my career of picturegoing. You'll notice that my reactions are based on male stars. The astounding fact is, that female stars, whatever way they are presented on the screen, do not impress me. I don't know the reason for this but if films were presented without women I should not be in the least affected. Those are my answers to your questions and although they may sound fantastic, they are absolutely true. Age nineteen, Male, British, Manual Worker. 5. Mr. . . . In answer to your request for letters from readers re. Have films ever influenced you with regard personal Decisions or Behaviour love divorce manners fashion my answer is yes. I am learning to play the piano and when I hear music which is written for picture such as that lovely Melody Trish Eyes are Smiling' from the picture of that name it makes me want to study music more (?) and also when I heard the voice of Dick Hayes I wanted to learn singing. 186
