THE ADULT AND THE CINEMA and Son and the actors who made it possible to impress an individual. Age 50 — Housewife and Part Time Red Gross Worker. English — (Parents deceased) Mother was a School teacher. Father Registrar Births and Deaths. 1 1 . Miss . . . A film which influenced me greatly into a way out of my troubles was The Song ofBernadette. It showed faith, courage and endurance, Bernadette had to endure many criticisms, sneers and great physical pain, but she had the courage to go on and an unshakeable faith in her beliefs. This particular film helped me in this way. I loved a man very much although my parents objected to him, I still went around with him, because I loved him so much I could not bear to ever think of staying away from him. Eventually my dreams were shattered in one day when I found he was only having a game with me, he no longer wanted me, that I was just another girl in his life. I was so upset I wanted to take my life that day. My mother knew I was cut very deeply so she asked me to go to the pictures, the picture was The Song ofBernadette. I didn't think then, that I should feel differently afterwards. I begun to realise as I watched the picture that the way out was to have faith in God to ask Him for courage to go on with my everyday task as Bernadette did. She endured great pain but she triumphed over all in the end, and peace rested with her, I knew if I asked God for strength and courage to overcome my difficulties I should find peace also. I can now say I have done so, Faith, Strength and Courage is what everyone needs during these very trying times especially for those who are bereaved through enemy action, they need The Song ofBernadette. Age — I9yrs. Sex — Woman. Nationality — British. Fathers Profession — Machinist. Mothers Profession — Housewife. My Profession is Machinist. 12. Miss . . . There is no doubt at all that films have influenced me from a very early age. In fact, the influence started on 10th March, 19 16, the night before I was born. Had my mother not gone to a cinema then, and laughed immoderately at a comedy she saw, I would have been able to start life at least three weeks later than I did.
