THE ADULT AND THE CINEMA I made preparations to look my very best, and managed to do my hair, make up, and dress quite well, the impressions which Ann had made on me helped me a lot in this. I went to the party and had a lovely time, and shortly afterwards I received a letter from a young London fellow who had also been at the party, and he invited me to spend a day in London with him. I went, met him again, and had a great time. After this I really felt that I owed my success to Ann, for giving me such a good idea of the technique of 'Glamour', and love-making. Well, since then I have made myself 'Go Places', and have not felt self-conscious as I sometimes used to. Recently I met an American sailor who hails from the State of Texas, which incidentally is Ann Sheridan's native State. We are very good friends at present but of course I cannot say yet if a love affair will result, but I can say that without having seen the films of Anns' that I have, I would have probably have made a mess of things by being shy and uncertain. In the film Kings Row, Ann had a very sympathetic part and I feel that I learnt something from seeing her acting in it, though of course not in the same way as the other films. Then in Edge of Darkness she played the role of a very brave, tough, Norwegian girl, this helped me to understand that there is more in life than just the superficial things. In George Washington Slept Here, Ann had a chance to show her sense of humour, and in Shine On Harvest Moon she again used her charm with great effect. These films have been an education to me, and I am serious about this, though I am afraid I haven't been able to explain very well what I mean. However I hope that you will be able to see exactly how I feel about it. Question No. 2. (Have films ever appeared in your dreams?) My answer to this question is No — I have never dreamt about films at any time. I do hope that my experience concerning question one will help you with your investigation. 66. Miss . . .
