The Shadow was just an mc dreamed up to give an extra touch of showmanship to a whodunit half hour. In no time flat "The Shadow knows " was on the lips of listeners and before the year was out the formula had beccme part of the Blue Coal Mystery Hour on CBS. Amuch as anything else it was the superlative acting of Frank Readick, who doubled as The Shadow and the leading character in the mystery play itself, that made dialers tune in the regular Sunday afternoon airing.
