We use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) during our scanning and processing workflow to make the content of each page searchable. You can view the automatically generated text below as well as copy and paste individual pieces of text to quote in your own work.
Text recognition is never 100% accurate. Many parts of the scanned page may not be reflected in the OCR text output, including: images, page layout, certain fonts or handwriting.
CALLING FOLKS
in other towns is as easy as calling local numbers.
STATION -TOSTATION CALLS
Calls to Nearby Points are handled by your local operator.
Station-to-Station Calls to many nearby points will be acceptée! by your local operator when placed by number.
for example: "Santa Ana 6268."
If you do not know the téléphone number, dial 113 or call Information before placing your call.
To place calls to more distant points, just dial 1 10 or call Long Distance. Then tell the operator:
The city or town you want.
The out-of-town téléphone number, if you have it, or the name under which it is listed. for example: "San Diego — Jackson 2121."
Or if you do not know the téléphone number: "Anyone at Mr. John Doe's résidence, 34 Blank Street."
Thèse are Station-to-Station calls because you have not asked to speak to a particular person at the distant téléphone.
PERSON-TO-PERSON CALLS
When you want to reach a particular person dial 110 or call Long Distance. Then tell the operator:
The city or town you want.
The out-of-town téléphone number, if you have it, or the name under which it is listed, and the name of the person you want.
for example: "San Diego — Jackson 2121, Mr. Brown."
Or if you do not know the téléphone number: "San Diego, John Brown
at his résidence, 4000 Highland Blvd."
(If you désire connection with a particular station of a Private Branch Exchange, withouc specifying a particular person, this is also classified as a person-to-person call.)
