LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE SERVICE APPOINTAIENT CALLS Appointment Calls are Person-to-Perion Calls on which you wish arrangements made in advance with the station or person to be called to talk at a specified time. MESSENGER CALLS Messenger Calls are Person-to-Person Calls requiring the use of a MESSENGER to secure attendance of a designated person at the called téléphone. REPORT CHARGES A limited charge known as a Report Charge is made under certain conditions, such as on uncompleted Person-to-Person, Appointment, Messenger, and Collect Calls if the called téléphone is reached but communication is not established for reasons beyond the control of the Téléphone Company. COLLECT CALLS Reversai of charges on Person-to-Person, Appointment, and Messenger Calls is permitted, provided the called party accepts the charges. Reversai of charges on Statïon-to-Station Calls is permitted when ANYONE answering accepts the charges and when the initial period rate is 2 5 cents or more. When the initial period rate is 20 cents, a Collect Station-to-Station rate of 25 cents applies, and when less than 20 cents, the corresponding Person-to-Person rate applies, provided Person-to-Person service is available. Collect Calls are not accepted to points outside of the United States, Canada, and Cuba. TRANSIENT CALL SERVICE This service enables a home office to locate its traveling représentatives by téléphone. The représentative registers with the long distance chief operator in each city he visits. He tells her where he can be reached. When his home office or famïly want him, they just ask Long Distance to put them in touch, naming the town or successive places at which he may be reached. The regular Person-to-Person charge applies if a conversation is held; otherwise, the usual report charge is made, if applicable. No charge ïs made for the additional "registering" service. INTEREXCHANGE RECEIVING SERVICE (Zenith Service) This service is provided for the convenience of business subscribers who have customers in other cities. The business subscriber concerned may arrange to be listed in the directories of the cities or towns selected by him. A téléphone number such as "Zenith 1000" is assigned. TO PLACE A CALL TO A ZENITH NUMBER please refer to the directory listing of the subscriber desired and your local service area on pages 6 and 7 to détermine whether the subscriber lias a téléphone listed in your local service area. If so, please call that number. If the subscriber desired does not have such a number listed please note from the listing whether your exchange is shown as an exchange from which a Zenith number of that subscriber may be called. If the téléphone number from which you are calling is served from an exchange shown in the listing proceed as follows: Ask Operator for "ZENITH (number)" TELETYPEWRITER SERVICE Teletypewriter service enables the user to send typewritten messages by wire. The service may be provided over direct leased lines between two or more teletypewriter instruments or by subscribing for teletypewriter exchange service. Teletypewriter exchange service is provided by means of the same types of machines connected through switchboards and the placing of calls is handled in practically the same manner as téléphone connections. Messages, inquiries, reports, etc., typed in one office, are instantly and accurately reproduced on the receiving teletypewriter, providing direct private two-way communication. Teletypewriter exchange service provides connections throughout the city or anywhere in the nation practically as rapidly as téléphone connections. This service enables three or more (usually limited to six) people in différent cities to talk together by téléphone as if they were seated around a table. Each can hear and be heard by ail. This service saves time and travel, speeds décisions, and brings quick action. It also has valuable social uses — for family reunions, for greetings on anniversaries, birthdavs, on Mother's Day, and similar occasions, or for consultation in time of emergency.
