6 THE FILM RENTER & MOVING PICTURE NEWS. SUMMER CONFERENCE C.E.A. March 31, 1923, ARRANGEMENTS. A Varied Program for the Kentish Coast. MEETING of the Executive Committee of the London A and Home Counties Branch was held at Broadmead House, Panton Street, Haymarket, $.W.1., on Wednes day, March 21, 1923, at 3 p.m. The minutes of the previous meeting (February 21) were read, confirmed, and signed by the chairman, and, arising out of same, it was duly reported that the six delegates of the bra:ich had been elected to the General Council at the last meeting of that body. Charity Application. An application for assistance from the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, 2834, Gt. Portland Street, W.1, was left to the individual discretion of members. Theatrical Employees. Surprise was expressed at a letter from the National Association of Theatrical Employees, and the secretary was duly instructed. A Transport Scheme. The Secretary read a letter from the Eastern Counties Film Service asking for the blessing of the branch in undertaking to run a road transport scheme to Oxford, and it was decided that exhibitors on this route should be duly communicated with, stating that the branch had approved the scheme. — Price of Posters. The high price of posters provoked iiscuasion: and upon it being reported that a special committee of the General Council had ‘been appointed to deal with this matter, the secretary was instructed to forward information on this subject for the use of that committee in its deliberations. Adolph Zukor’s Visit. The Chairman reported that Mr. Adolph pikes was shortly . arriving in this country, and he had been approached by the kinematograph Renters’ Society, which sought the co-operation of the branch in entertaining Mr. Zukor to luncheon. After discussion, it was duly moved, seconded, and carried by a majority that the officers be empowered to co-operate with the K.R.S. in this matter. [Unfortunately, Mr. Zukor was not able to stay long enough in London to accept the proposed hospitality of the two Associations. He hopes to be able to do so, however, on his next visit to England.—Enp. Frim Renter. | An L.C.C. Bill. The London County Council (General Powers) Bill was discussed, and a sub-committee formed to tackle same. Letter from Matt. Raymond. It was agreed to defer a letter from Mr. Matt. Raymond adverting to the chairmanship of the General Council for six months. By-Elections and the Tax. The Branch Convener read his reports on the Mitcham and Mast Willesden By-elections with reference to the Entertainnents Tax, which stated that the two successful candidates were in favour of total abolition. The reports were duly ndopted. with a u-animous vote of congratulation to the Branch Convener. THE SUMMER CONFERENCE. A report of the sub-committee co-operating with a sub-committee of the Kent County Branch in arranging the Annual Summer Conference at Margate in June uext was read, the following of which is an extract of the arrangements : TUESDAY, JUNE 12. 3 p.m.--General Council Meeting—Winter Gardens. A general invitation to be issued to all members of the Association to be present. 7-30 to 8 p.m.—Reception in Winter Gardens, to be followed by concert, dance, provision of card tables, ete. Guests to be received by His Worship The Mayor of Margate and the president of the Association. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13. 10 a.m.--Meeting of branch secretaries—Winter Gardens. 11 a.m.—Conference. Paper by Mr. W. Gavazzi King, general secretary. 11-15 a.m.—Debate of the three sides of the trade. 12-30 p.m.—Conference ends. 1 a.m.—Lunch at St. George’s Hotel. County Branch to preside. 2-30 p.m.—Leave St. George’s Hotel by Canterbury. 3-30 p.m.—Arrive Canterbury. Visit to Canterbury Cathedral. 4.45 p.m.—Tea at Canterbury. 6-45 p.m.-—Arrive St. George’s Hotel, Margate. 7-30 for 8 p.m.—Banquet at St. George’s Hotel. Chairman of London and Home Counties Branch to preside. Banquet to be followed by dance and provision of card tables. An extension of licence to be applied for. | Chairman of Kent char-a-banc for THURSDAY, JUNE 14. Trip to Boulogne. Arrangements to be made for lunch there. Visitors to return as they wish. The headquarters of the Conference will be St. George's Hotel, Margate. Accommodation can be obtained at “this hotel for over 200 a a FRIDAY, JUNE 15. Kinema Carnival at Winter Gardens under the auspices of the Mareate Corporation. Prominent film artistes will be invited. | | Note.—For the benefit of those visitors who do not make the trip to Boulogne a tennis or golf tournament may be arranged, should same be necessary, when a piece of plate will be put up for competition. The report was unanimously adopted, and Mr. Matt. Raymond co-opted as a member of the Sub-Committec. Inequalities of Licensing. A report was submitted from the sub-committee dealing wit) the resolution of the London County Council of the inequalities or anomalies (if any) in licensing, and was instructed to proceed In its deliberations. It was agreed to defer the election of a delegate to the General Purposes Committec. The Seerctary was instructed to summon a general meeting for Friday, April 6, at 11-15 a.m. at Broadmead House.
