From our Own Representative.
Unanimously Selected,
Alderman Trounsen observed that he would like the name of Major Gale to go forward as that of the branch’s nominee for the position of presiddnt of the parent body. He (the alderman) regretted that the time and work involved in performance of the presidential duties were-so great that it was absolutely impossible. for him to again accept office, and ignore his other duties as he. had had to do during the past twelve months. At the same time he very much appreciated the pressure which his colleagubs. had brought to bear upon him with a view to his continuing 4s president. Although unable to accept the position for another” year he could assure them sincerely that he would exert: eve effort he could to support Major Gale. (Hear, hear.) Majbr Gale was a gentleman of tremendous ‘capacity.’ He had a comprehensive vrasp of everyday matters, and got to the root ofa question without any waste of time. He was perfectly satisfigd that in Major Gale the Association would have the right man in the right place. There were very few men in the industry who were so well qualified as M a1 Gale to ‘fill the position. (Applause.) :
The Chairman claimed the privilege of seconding the nomination of Major Gale, remarking that his interests were entirely on the exhibiting side of the industry. He was amember of the Middlesex County Council, anda J.P. He had a very substantial stake in the trade. He was most regular in his attendance at the meetings of the C.JE.A., and he, moreover, had o great grasp of the problems that confronted them.
Mr. Mott Cowan inquired whether, having regard to the Entertainments Tax campaign, it was not possible for Alderman Trounson, who had everything in connection with the matter at his finger tips, to again accept nomination for the presidential post. Another member observed that the success of the NorthWestern branch of the Association was not only largely due to the work of the alderman ‘as president of the C.E.A., but also to his regular attendance at the brunch meetings.
The Chairman: I rnay say we thoroughly appreciate the wonderful efforts he has put forward, and I can assure you that.tho whole of tha country is just as anxious as we are to have him re-elected to the position. ‘The last Council meeting was interrupted on several occasions’ owing to the requests made to him to again accept nomination. At the same time I know his mind is made up. : :
Alderman Trounson: It has been the most regretful incident in my life that I have not been able to see my way clear to carry on this important position.
The meeting then unanimously approved the nomination of Major Gale as president for the ensuing year.
It was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr. F. W. Locke, seconded by Mr. Lewis, to nominate Mr. Dovener as vicepresident of the Association, Mr. Locke characterised the nomination of Mr. Dovener as ‘‘ a big compliment to the branch,” and said the branch would give him their undivided support.
