A Dual Equipped Screening Room
Miniature Theatre Provides for Both 16mm. and 35mm. Film Showing to Meet Requirements of Any Occasion
BRIEF: The screening room... long the workroom for informal industry film showings ... has come to be looked upon with interest by other businesses as well ..for educational and selling purposes.
The majority of screening rooms, however .. . equipped with only 35mm. projectors ... have been unable to show commercial and other 16mm. prints.
A New York firm, though, recently installed both sizes of projection equipment in building a new screening room . .. thus making shows with either type of film possible.
The screening room, which might best be properly described as a “capsule-size” theatre, has achieved renown in the motion picture industry itself as an ideal place for previews of new pictures before prospective exhibitors and bookers. In recent years, however, as business in general has become increasingly aware of the value of the motion picture as a sales or training medium, screening room facilities have been in great demand by outside sources for these purposes.
The widespread use of screening rooms by private industry has, however, often been obstructed by the fact that most of them are equipped with 35mm. projection machines only, whereas the vast majority of commercial prints and educational prints are on 16mm. film. This obstacle has frequently deprived not only theatre industry screening rooms, but hotels and night clubs equipped with projection facilities of the extra revenue to be gained from alternate showings.
The "Film Center Theatre™
In an effort to combat this problem, the Bonded Film Storage Company of New York recently built a miniature theatre with provisions for both 35mm. and 16mm. film showings. The projection room of the 60-seat house contains an Ampro 16mm. projector situated directly beside two regular RCA 35mm. machines, and either projector may be used as occasion requires.
Fully equipped for trade, private, and business motion picture showings, the theatre consists of a comfortable reception-waiting room and an auditorium luxuriously finished in the latest decor. The former room, said to be the only one of its kind possessed by a company in the New York area, is furnished with lounges, chairs, and other facilities for added comfort and privacy. The auditorium itself provides all the conveniences of a conventional theatre with its cushioned chairs, healthful air conditioning, and soft, indirect lighting.
But its biggest attraction is the skilled use of dual sized equipment.
