TV Teletype NEW YORK Bob Stahl reports: Why Godfrey Fired La Rosa and Bleyer Julius La Rosa was the most surprised person in the CBS studio the morning of Oct. 19 when Arthur Godfrey announced to his millions of fans across the country that La Rosa had just sung his swan song with the Godfrey show. The press release issued by Godfrey’s office quoted him as saying that La Rosa had asked for his release from the Godfrey clan to strike out on his own. Actually, Julius had no inkling, when Godfrey asked him to step before the cameras to sing, that he was going to be fired. It was the first time anyone had been sacked before so large an audience since Napoleon lost his job at Waterloo.
