This isn't the first leak. * * * Ever wonder why the commercial on'the Milton Berle pro¬ gram never comes until after the show's halfway mark? Seems that the advertising agericy wants to make certain that as many viewers.as possible see the sponsor's plug. And by waiting until after BISHOP FULTON J. SHEEN'S Life Is Worth Living winds up at 8:30 P.M. on a competing network, it's believed that the Berle commercial will get its fullest quota of viewers. * * * MAURICE EVANS set to star in a two-hour version of SHAKESPEARE'S "Richard II" January 24 on Hall of Fame. SARAH CHURCHILL, hostess and occasional star of the series, will play the queen . . . She and producer ALBERT McCLEERY will come to New York from Holly¬ wood three weeks prior to the telecast to sign other actors. I Love Lucv. after slipping from first place last month for the first time, is back at the top of the National TV ratings for November. Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts climbed to second spot, with Dragnet, which topped Lucv in October, slipping back to third place. JIM BACKUS, co-star with JOAN DAVIS on the I Married Joan show, steadfastly refuses to travel by air. "I don't fly," Jim ex¬ plains, "because of my religion. I'm a devout coward." . . . Hollywood's younger set takes over ED SULLIVAN's Toast of the Town Jan. 3. Guesting on the show will be JUNE ALLYSON, TONY CURTIS and JANET LEIGH. Looks as though MICKEY ROONEY'S new telefilm series will replace Bonino starting Jan. 2. ROONEY plays a musical comedy star, with REGIS T00MEY, former movie actor, heading the support . . . The Annie Oakley telefilm series tees off soon on some 80 stations sponsored by Canada Dry. GAIL DAVIS plays the title role in the show, produced by GENE AUTRY's Flying A Enterprises. ABC is delaying the start of its new dramatic series in the Sunday night 8 to 9 period until January in order to telecast three special holiday programs in that spot on Dec. 13, 20 and 27. The format and stars of those shows have not been set . . . ABC will also televise the New Year's Eve crowds in Times Square, N.
