One reason DANNY KAYE isn't doing any TV: He'll gross $700,000 for 1953 alone, not counting a percentage of his latest pictures. * * * BING CROSBY is advising everyone to appear on tele¬ vision no more than six or seven times a year . . . EDDIE CANTOR is through with the Comedy Hour after this season. His already announced series of 39 half-hour films will be of the variety type, with CANTOR as the host-emcee, and will be simulcast for radio . . . EDGAR BERGEN has signed to do four hour-long shows for Kraft next season, in addition of 39 hour-long radio shows. * * * JERRY LEWIS' Christmas card was inscribed: "A gift has been sent in your name--to King Farouk". . . . DESI ARNAZ has reached the thinking-out-loud stage on his plan to expand I Love Lucy to a full hour for the 1955-56 season. . . . The best and funniest pilot film this writer has seen in a long, long while is MICKEY ROONEY’S "Hey, Mulligan"- warm slapstick in the hands of a master. ... The HAL ROACH lot is predicting overnight stardom for SALLY ANSFIELD of the new Rocky Jones* Space Ranger film series, due to start on the air this month. * * * CBS has no less than 11 new shows in the preparatory stage for next season, including a half-hour dramatic series starring GINGER ROGERS. . . . The RITZ BROTHERS are planning to make 26 half-hour TV films in Mexico City this spring. . . . NBC has replaced EZIO PINZA's i* Bonino with 13 weeks worth of SPIKE JONES. * * * SARA BERNER's radio show of several seasons back, "Sara's Private Caper," is now the subject of serious conversation at NBC-TV . . . MARTIN & LEWIS will produce 26 half-hour variety films for TV, using unknowns. LEWIS will direct but neither comic will appear in the shows. They hope to get started on the project this month. . . . EDWARD ARNOLD will serve as host-emcee of a "new" dramatic film series to be called Your Star Showcase^. The block of 52 shows actually will consist of 43 re-runs and seven new films. * * * MARJORIE LORD has been signed as the Lever girl and will portray the women's page editor in the Big Town film series as well as handle the commercials . . . JACK WEBB to vacation in Honolulu early this year . . . HOWARD DUFF making a Ford Theater film which he hopes will also serve as a pilot for a series of his own. 14
