Chicago Dateline TVs Week: Don McNeill’s Breakfast Club series bows on TV Feb. 22, when ABC ventures into the field of early daytime programming. Don’s show will be a network simulcast complete with all the Breakfast Clubbers. WGN-TV’s symphony concerts are now being relayed via kinescope to other parts of Illinois. The full hour telecasts of Chicago 'Symphony pro¬ grams are seen over Rockford’s WTVO, Belleville’s WTVI, Peoria’s WEEK, Springfield’s WICS and Decatu r’s WTVP. Mintz February is anni¬ versary month for two WNBQ veterans, both with a record-shattering five yeai's in TV. Herbie Mintz launches his sixth year of piano-twiddling on Feb. 7, while Walt Durbahn begins Number 6 on Feb. 3. (See picture, Page A-5.) Kansas City, Mo., had its- share of celebrities this week when the Kukla, Fran and Ollie troupe and glamorous Toni Gilman flew down to help launch TV guide’s new edition there. Tommy Bartlett is apparently going to welcome travelers down Silver Springs, Florida, way. NBC’s pudgy Chicago emcee has acquired an International Deer Ranch there to be used as a year- round exhibition area. The Chicago Arena has set Jan. 19 as Norman Barry Night, honoring the popular WNBQ sportscaster. Fans may obtain free tickets by writing to Barry at WNBQ Coincidence: Jan. 19 also happens to be Norm’s birthday. Advance Tips on Shows: WGN-TV will show a one-shot kinescope Feb. 1 at 8 PM titled What's The Story, and fea¬ turing Dr. Allen Du Mont in a discus¬ sion of the controversial color TV story. Two more adventure thrillers will be added soon (via film) to WBKB’s schedule.
