m 1 ■ _ V -YOU TELL TELEVISION Ptease oddrets all leHert lo Managing Editor, < Plugging Duggan Through a recent Sportscast column, you asked for com¬ ments on the Tom Duggan Show. Here are mine: We think Tom Duggan is tops and listen to him regularly. Con¬ versely, we never tune in any of WNBQ’s Five Star Final shows since Duggan was fired. Why don’t you discuss some of the remarks obnoxious Jack Eigen is always making about Tom? Tom Duggan’s show is so far superior to both Eigen’s and Howard Miller’s that it is useless to make comparisons. — Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Dunphy, Chicago. Slugging Duggan Your articles in TV GUIDE have been very fine, especially the ones about Tom Duggan. I think Norm Barry does twice the job that Duggan used to do on his Channel 5 sportscast. Tom should, by all means, go back to the plumbing trade his father follows. — Bob Davids Aurora, III. Grass Roots Straw Poll The day after Tom Duggan com¬ plained alxjut his poor ratings, my hus¬ band and I took a survey about Tom at the hardware store we own. Of 118 cus¬ tomers we quizzed, J82 said tliey listen to Tom Duggan every night he’s on. Thirty- six of those quizzed, however, said he was on too late (11:10 PM) and that getting to bed early was more important. I wish he were on earlier, too. — Mrs. Margaret Sudino, Chicago. Erin Go Bragh! Duggan Forever!^ — Mr. and Mrs. F. Koral (and friends), Chicago, III. o TV GUIDE, 73! S. Plymouth Court, Chicago 5, III. Fuller Explanation In your December 25th issue, an item was carried on newscaster Julian Bent¬ ley’s use of the signoff symbol — “73.” It was explained that “73 is telegrapher’s Morse code, used for quick signoffs.” That’s only partially correct. As stated by the A.R.R.L. (American Radio Relay League), “73” means “Best Wishes, Best Regards, etc.” Moreover, it is not only used in telegraphy but among radio “hams” of whom I am one. — Richard Andersen, Chicago. Comments on Custom Recently on the WBBM-TV program Events of the Week, Lee Phillip made the remark “that the lights on the Christmas tree could possibly signify the same thing as the candles in the Jewish Feast of Lights, both commem¬ orating the birth of Christ.” She should be told that the Jewish Feast of Lights commemorates the victory of the Macca¬ bees over the Syrians and the rededica¬ tion of the Temple — not the Nativity! — Joel Zaiman, Chicago. I am a girl, 11 years old. As a school language ex¬ ercise, we must write a special letter to someone. I would like to write to Gale Storm, who is the star of My Little Margie. I keep a scrapbook on her. Could you please give me her address? Thank you.— Mary Ellen Howard, Oak Park, III. (You can write to Gale, care of CBS-TV, Hollywood 28, Calif. You’re welcome, Mary Ellen.—Ed.) Duggan Homework Storm A-7
