NEW YORK TV Teletype Bo b Stahl reports: ETHEL MERMAN signed to re-create one of her most famous Broadway roles, "Panama Hattie," for a CBS Best of Broadway extravaganza . . . Artful Miss Dodger, JUNE HAVOC'S new show originally slated for an ABC airing, is now titled Willy and starts Saturday, Sept. 18, on CBS, replacing Two in Love . . . New mystery adventure show, titled simply Action, slated for ABC Friday nights starting Oct. 1. JIMMY DURANTE busy filming four or five of his new half-hour shows for NBC Saturday nights. But these will probably be held until the end of the season, so that JIMMY can enjoy a longer vacation next year. * * * Tired of watching old movies on TV? Well, you may soon be getting new ones. Movie producer EDWARD SMALL is plan¬ ning a new feature-length version of "Count of Monte Cristo" for TV. SMALL turned out most of the original "Monte Cristo" movies, so this may be just a means of amortizing the cost of all those costumes piled up in his warehouse. EDWARD R. MURROW may play himself on Studio One Monday, Nov. 8, when the show presents a dramatiza¬ tion of Supreme Court Justice WILLIAM 0. DOUGLAS' new book, "Almanac of Liberty" . . . Lined up for MUR¬ ROW interviews this fall on Person to Person are MARTHA RAYE, MOHAMMED ALI and maybe JACK WEBB. ALI, Prime Minister of Pakistan, will visit the U. S. Sounds like a strange team but RICARDO MONTALBAN and NANETTE FABRAY are planning to join forces for a telefilm series. This is in addition, of course, to NANETTE'S star¬ ring appearances on the MAX LIEBMAN "spectaculars." * * * ROBERT MONTGOMERY planning a two-part version of "Hunchback of Notre Dame" Monday, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. Who will play the hunchback, Quasimodo, hasn't been determined . . . And it's definite now for MAURICE EVANS to play "Macbeth" on Hall of Fame Sun¬ day, Nov. 28. This show will be staged in color, with JUDITH ANDERSON playing Lady Macbeth. * * * PAT KENNEDY, PETER LAWFORD's wife, pulling an ALFRED HITCHCOCK by doing a walk-on in each stanza of her husband's new TV show, Dear Phoebe . . . NBC has auditioned some 400 kids and still hasn't found the right one to play Baby Snooks.
