NEW YORK TV Teletype Bob St ahl reports: Varied activities of New York's famed City Center will form the basis of MAX LIEBMAN'S third spectacular, this one scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 10. JUDY HOLLIDAY, STEVE ALLEN and DICK SHAWN will star in a musical review, which is to include a 20-minute ballet, "Filling Station," performed by the City Center Ballet Company. * * * Both CBS and NBC trying to sign JANIS PAIGE for color TV shows, after her impressive performance on ED SULLIVAN'S first Toast of the Town colorcast last month. . . . CHARLES RUGGLES and his The World of Mr. Sweeney, a nighttime entry this summer, will be a daily daytime program beginning Monday, Oct. 4. MARTHA RAYE's guest for her first show Tuesday, Sept. 28, will be WALLY COX and, of course. The Rock—ROCKY GRAZIANO. . . . There are now 31,036,000 TV sets around the country, according to NBC's latest count . . . CLAUDETTE COLBERT stars in a weekly half-hour telefilm series starting Saturday nights in late October or early November. Show will replace The Duke. * * * FRED ALLEN talking with Omnibus producers about doing a regular comedy spot on that show this season . . . MYRNA LOY, ROSALIND RUSSELL, FARLEY GRANGER - and RICHARD WIDMARK among the movie stars awaiting a lead on U.S. Steel Hour as soon as the right play comes along for them . . . GARY MERRILL signed to star in "Freighter" on Steel Hour in October. It's a play about men who go down to the sea, etc. EDDY ARNOLD starring in a new telefilm series which he'll personally bankroll. It will be the first telefilm show to be produced in Chicago . . . The new Rin Tin Tin show goes Friday nights on ABC, taking over the time originally slated for JUNE HAVOC. JUNE'S show is now set for CBS Saturday nights. * * * GORDON MacRAE takes over as permanent singing emcee on all Comedy Hour shows except the five to star MARTIN and LEWIS and four so-called "Book Shows" . . . He'll start with the Hollywood Bowl show Sunday, Sept. 26, which headlines PATTI PAIGE. * * * Kukla, Fran and Ollie may get a half-hour Saturday morn¬ ings on ABC, in addition to the daytime show they've already started in New York and Chicago only. *Trade-viark, Teletype Corp. 3
