Virginia Patterson is a lovely Dayton, O., telecaster whose audience partici¬ pation show over WHIO has brought her tons of mail from enthusiastic listeners. Now, for TV GUIDE, she has come up with an easy trick for the entertaining TV hostess. Her recipe gives the enterprising miss or matron a chance to let her imagination run wild and, at the same time, come up with an easy-to-pre- pare and attractive appetite teaser. With a varied and judicious selec¬ tion of dainty decorations for its col¬ orful “quills,” this “TV Porcupine” can please many tastes. Miss Patterson is shown above with the finished product. Here’s how she made it: TV Porcupine Start with a cabbage head, red or green, or an eggplant. Choose items for appetizers that will be colorful as well as tasty, such as olives, melon balls, pickles, cheese, meat tidbits, small white onions (canned), radishes, shrimp. Chop larger items into dainty, bite- size pieces. Put each on the tip of a col¬ ored toothpick and stick into cabbage or eggplant. Place them just as close to¬ gether as possible, to make an attrac¬ tive, well-rounded effect. Place in center of large plate or Lazy Susan. Circle with crackers, potato chips or nuts, or any other suitable delicacy, and serve with your favorite beverage. 22
