Steel Hour away from ABC for its Wednesday night period effective July 6. Steel will alternate with a mammoth hour-long film show to be produced by 20th Century-Pox under General Electric sponsorship. * * * MARGUERITE PIAZZA, who's been appearing in night-clubs for several months, returns to TV Thursday, May 12, as star of Show ¬ er of Stars . She'll play a Metropolitan Opera star who inherits a major league baseball team. The show's title is a beaut —"The High Pitch." . . . And speaking of the Met, look for it to produce • a series of telefilmed operas for syndication next fall. * * * CBS planning a drastic reshuffle of its early even¬ ing schedule, apparently to meet competition of ABC's Disneyland, Rin Tin Tin, etc. The DOUGLAS EDWARDS news show, plus the PERRY COMO, JO STAFFORD and JANE FROMAN programs will be moved back next fall, and will be re¬ placed by new shows pegged to an "all-family" level. * * * Studio One definitely will present the late GEORGE M. COHAN's "Pigeons and People" before season's end . . . ARTHUR GODFREY will host Talent Scouts through the summer but Godfrey and Friends will vacation come July . . . Best of Broadway winds up May 4 with an adaptation of "Broadway," starring DICK POWELL and JACK LEMMON. HOLLYWOOD Dan Jenkins reports: Western Pennsylvania exhibitors (theater owners) have refused to show DISNEY's "Davy Crockett" feature because DISNEY first released it, as a three-parter, to TV via Disneyland ...
