IDA LUPINO, JOAN FONTAINE and EDMUND O'BRIEN will star alternately in a series of 39 new TV films called Port of Call, a glorified guided tour of the cities of the world. Much of the background film has already been shot. EDGAR BERGEN, one of the original big-name TV film enthusiasts, will do the bulk of his six CBS-TV shows this season on a live basis. He says the canned laughter of filmed comedy shows changed his mind . . . MARTHA RAYE's first monthly NBC-TV show in the CAESAR-COCA Saturday night spot will feature MARGARET TRUMAN and ROCKY GRAZIANO as guests. PATRICE MUNSEL will make 13 operatic TV films in Italy WANDA HENDRIX and BILL LUNDIGAN are being sought to star in a Kerry Drake feature picture, after which they would take the same roles in a subsequent TV film series . . . BURT LANCASTER has been set for the October 4 MARTIN & LEWIS Comedy Hour, with FRANK SINATRA inked in for JIMMY DURANTE's Nov. 8 show. Hollywood Director EDDIE BUZZELL will direct the first three MILTON BERLE shows, then returns here to start a new film series. Third Girl From the Right . . . ALAN YOUNG and NBC-TV are in the serious talking stage . . Gross-Krasne Productions are now casting for a new Lorelei in the Big Town series, JANE NIGH quitting in favor of motherhood. Republic Studios clearing the decks for production of TV films on its own lot, first major movie studio to announce such plans. Seven independently-produced film series already are being shot there . . . BING CROSBY ENTERPRISES, producers of Rebound and Crown Theater. have suspended TV film production "in¬ definitely. " GORDON MAC RAE has set up a corporation to produce a film series of his own now that he's out from under his Warner Bros, contract. Warners, incidentally, now have only five stars under exclusive contract . . . RCA-NBC will have sunk no less than 125,000,000 into color TV by the end of this year. * * * DAVID NIVEN and CHARLES BOYER have wound their season's Four Playhouse chores in advance, freeing NIVEN to make a picture in London and BOYER to play the lead opposite MARY MARTIN in "Kind Sir" on Broadway, opening Nov. 4 . . . SEYMOUR BERNS, an old Hollywood hand, is directing the Red Skelton Show on CBS-TV. 12
