Nesbitt | Johnson This Sunday, November 27th, 3:00 P.M., Channel 9 will televise Handel’s “Messiah” direct from the Minneapolis Auditorium. Over 1,000 voices representing 100 different churches in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas will participate, accompanied by a 65 piece symphony orchestra. Dick Nesbitt, sportscaster, for Channel 5, 10:20 P.M., Monday through Saturday, is now spinning records on a daily record program over KSTP radio, 1:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. His experience comes by being a disc-jockey in Chicago, New York and Cleveland. The top national award for television news in 1955 has been given to WCCOTV, Channel 4, Minneapolis-St. Paul, ‘by the Radio-Television News Directors Association. The award was announced by Baskett Mosse, Chairman of the radio-television department of the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, where the news competition is conducted for the ra Minnesota Twin Cities Edition dio-TV news directors’ organization. A panel of network and independent news experts served as judges. WCCO-TV was named ‘the outstanding TV news operation of 1955,” and was presented with a citation and trophy at the annual R-TNDA convention in Denver, November 19th. Rollie Johnson is WCCO-TV News Director. it is the: first time the coveted award has been given to a television station in the Northwest, and the citation honors Channel 4 for “the most complete audio-visual news service of 1955 in the area it serves, plus the greatest contribution to the general progress of television news in the United States and Canada.” Commenting upon the announcement of the recognition, WCCO-TV News Director Rollie Johnson said: ‘““WCCOTV is naturally proud to be the only Twin Cities television station to add national and Canadian honors to its already outstanding TV _ operation.” @3 wcCcco-tTv (CBS) 50 S. 9th Street, Minneapolis, Minn.
