If the case becomes a politi¬ cal football, something hoked up as a pre-elec¬ tion gimmick—phooey! ‘ The Horse Show, opening October 30th and running through November 6th, is one of our favorite sport spectacles. This year, as you watch the U. S. riders go through their phenomenal paces, you will be get¬ ting a preview of the 1952 Olympics to take place at Helsinki. The U. S. Cavalry used to provide our equestrian teams, but in 1948 that unit was motorized. Crack riders from Ireland, Brazil, Canada and Mexico will be competing with the Americans. Last year our boys won the coveted International Perpetual Challenge Trophy and we’ll bet they’ll win it again. Speaking of horses, that other breed, the racers, have an active month coming up. The trotters and pacers will be seen at Yonkers and the unhitched variety of racers can be viewed at the Empire-at-Jamaica meeting. At this writing the Westchester Handicap may be televised on October 27. Check your program schedules. We expect to visit Jamaica some afternoon and Yon¬ kers some evening to see what $2 can do.
