Many crimes are committed, both literally and figura¬ tively, in the pres¬ entation of adven¬ ture shows on TV. Ranging from su¬ perior to virtually inexcusable, a total of 70 such shows will fill the air during the 1954-55 season. Ten of the season’s quota will be shows never before seen, if one can overlook the fact that several of them spring from rather obvious lineage. A brace of movie dogs, Lassie and Rin Tin Tin, are making their television debuts. Lassie is being played by him- ON ADVENTURE SHOWS IT’S of villains suitable for gnawing. Rin Tin Tin will be mixed up with a small boy, an entire regiment of U.S. Cav¬ alry and several tribes of Indians. Both series promise to be four-bark specials. New standouts along whodunit lines should be The Lineup, pur¬ portedly the CBS answer to NBC’s Dragnet, and Sherlock Holmes. The Lineup is being produced with the active cooperation of the San Fran¬ cisco Police Department, including stories taken from their files, and the Golden Gate Bridge is sure to get a thorough going over from the cameras. Sherlock Holmes is being turned out CANINES, {adventure | Lassie & Co. share title role in Lassie. Rin Tin Tin IV stars in Rin Tin Tin. self and four of his sons; Rin Tin Tin, by the Great One’s greatgrandson, Rin Tin Tin IV. Lassie will be mixed up with a small boy, a pretty young widow, a handsome young neighbor, a Gramps and a passing parade by the producer of Foreign Intrigue, Sheldon Reynolds, and will star Ronald Howard, son of the late Leslie Howard. Hollywood’s answer to Foreign In¬ trigue itself may very well be Pass¬ port to Adventure, starring the very
