Park - It - You rse I f TV Eases Jam, Saves Money On An Oakland Parking Lot Installed at a cost of less than $2500, a “TV Eye” day and night scans every inch of a Downtown Merchants As¬ sociation city-block-square parking lot, in Oakland, Cal. The RCA TV set-up, built around a Vidicon tube, allows attendants to spot vacancies quickly an^ direct motorists to the proper aisle on a “park-it-yourself basis,” and is expected to save about $3500 a year in reduced overhead. It is installed atop a 30-foot standard and connected via a closed circuit to a monitor in the attendants’ booth. The “Eye” rotates every 15 seconds, bringing a picture of the parking sit¬ uation to the screen the attendants watch. All that’s needed is a robot- driver who won’t crumple fenders. Car enters lot: 'Eye' is in box atop pole.
