TV Teletype* NEW YORK Bob Stahl reports: Don't hold your breath, but there are strong rumors around that the major movie studios are finally going to release some of their old films to TV. Reports say movie companies are convinced they can now live with TV and that TV is no longer hurting them so much at the box-office. Also, with the advent of Cinemascope and other wide-screen processes, these older films have lost much of their theatrical re-run value. And speaking of movies, now that BENNY GOODMAN has con¬ sented to Universal's filming his life story, look for him to take another plunge into TV. GOODMAN is now trying to reunite his original orchestra, including GENE KRUPA and others, all of whom would be on the new TV show . . . The R eal George. new situation comedy starring GEORGE O'HANLON, may be one of NBC's summer replacements. * * * MINDY CARSON, who left TV last year to have a baby, is planning a new Sunday night show with ABC. It won't start until next fall, however . . . Another new program in the works for next fall is The Girl From Milwaukee. a situation comedy series starring CHAR¬ LOTTE RAE, a TV unknown but a new night-club favorite. * * * PAT CARROLL, who was RED BUTTONS' girl friend last year, is signing a new TV contract with NBC. Whether she'll have her own show or join the cast of another hasn't been determined. PAT recently has been featured in a little review at a Los Angeles theater . . . BOB CROSBY will have his own nighttime program starting in October, plus his present afternoon show. He'll probably have another name star to bolster the evening entry. DAVE GARROWAY is the latest TV star to buck ARTHUR GODFREY for "most hours on the air" honors. With the early-bird Today plus his Friday night show, DAVE now has 15% hours per week. And he's taken on a two-hour Sunday night radio assignment . . . Speaking of radio, LIBERACE is being auditioned by ABC for his own radio show. But how will they duplicate those candelabra for radio? * * * It's still tentative, but JAN MURRAY'S Dollar A Second may shift from Du Mont to NBC this summer to replace the first half-hour of the MILTON BERLE show . . . And RALPH EDWARDS, repeating last year's procedure, will depend on viewers to determine which of the This Is Your Life pro¬ grams to re-run for the summer . . .
