NEW YORK TV Teletype Bob Stahl reports: STEVE ALLEN'S new Tonight show, starting Sept. 27 on NBC, will spotlight after-dark activities throughout the Nation. There will be pickups from Times Square, Hollywood, etc. The show, slated for 90 minutes in East, an hour in Midwest will be telecast from New York as far west as Omaha. PERRY COMO returns Aug. 23 as the first in a long parade of stars returning to TV after their vacations . . . The BETTY HUTTON show, leading off NBC's new "spectaculars" Sept. 12, will be titled "Satins and Spurs." MAX LIEBMAN produces, with BETTY'S musical numbers to be staged by her ex-husband, CHARLES O'CURRAN. ■ # * * LIEBMAN, incidentally, is demanding that any stars he signs for his."spectaculars" do no other TV whatsoever for six weeks prior to his show. News of this broke when TV Playhouse tried to sign JUDY HOLLIDAY for the firlt PADDY CHAYEFSKY script of the new season, only to be told JUDY could not accept the assignment . . . ANN SOTHERN takes over the second "spectacular" Sept. 25, in "Lady in the Dark." GEORGE BURNS will personally produce the first group of Father Knows Best telefilms, new situation comedy starring ROBERT YOUNG and replacing ^ Web Sunday nights . . . CBS is building a new show around comedian ORSON BEAN, but has no plans to continue ORSON'S Blue Angel after the summer. ABC kicks off its Saturday afternoon college football schedule Sept. 18 with the California-Oklahoma game, will televise 26 additional weeks of collegiate sports after the football season, including track, baseball, hockey, etc. . . .With Colonel Flack switching from live to film, shooting is scheduled for end of August in both New York and Hollywood. ALAN MOWBRAY, FRANK JENKS star. Du Mont planning to move The Goldbergs back a half- hour on Tuesday nights when BISHOP SHEEN'S Life Is ^orth Living returns . . . The Justice orogTam can't show a percolator on screen. The instant coffee sponsor makes no other type and is afraid of plugging a competing brand. That Oct. 24 "spectacular" marking the electric industry's diamond jubilee will be the biggest TV show yet. With DAVID 0. SELZNICK producing, the show will carry a 11,000,000 budget and be seen on at least 310 stations. *Trade-mark, Teletype Corp. 3
