So far at any rate, about all I can say for the Eddie Cantor Com¬ edy Theater is this: Where does he man¬ age to find those beautiful girls? Maybe it’s the film¬ ing, but Banjo Eyes just doesn’t seem to be the entertainer he was live . . . Tuned in Dragnet the oth¬ er night for the first time in weeks and it’s surprising how well both that show and Jack Webb wear. The low-pressure atmosphere is so right for these cops-and-robbers things . .. Never thought anybody else on Your Hit Parade would ever replace Dor¬ othy Collins in my affections, but Gisele MacKenzie has. And how! Want to know something? Sid Caesar is coming around, slowly but surely. Can’t say the same of Imo- gene Coca, however . . . Some of my friends tell me Dear Phoebe isn’t consistent but every one I've caught —offhand, I’d say five or six—has been altogether to my liking . . . Sur¬ prising how the Ford Theater man¬ ages to keep its literary output al¬ ways above average. “Tomorrow We’ll Love,” with Larry Parks, Ni¬ cole Maurey and Eduard Franz, was another example. Strange coincidence the other Sat¬ urday when Peggy King sang “Any Questions?” on KDKA-TV’s Drag¬ net, and then appeared with George Gobel, whose show follows immedi¬ ately afterward on the same station, and sang the same song. It wasn’t planned that way, it just worked out that way because Dragnet, a net¬ work show Thursday night, is a kinescope on the Pittsburgh channel two days later, just before The George Gobel Show comes on.
