Text recognition is never 100% accurate. Many parts of the scanned page may not be reflected in the OCR text output, including: images, page layout, certain fonts or handwriting.

Making like the maestro: Steve Allen, right, doing his best to imitate Goodman as the famed clarinetist rehearses Allen for ‘The Benny Goodman Story.’ Hot Licorice Stick Steve Allen Turns To Clarinet For ‘The Benny Goodman Story’ Steve Allen, no mean piano player, tootles away manfully on the clarinet —licorice stick to the cool cats—in his movie debut in the title role of “The Benny Goodman Story.” While the gestures are Allen’s (he was coached by a “pro”), the music is Goodman’s. Most fun for Allen: working with music greats Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, Teddy Wilson and, of course, Goodman. Donna Reed plays Steve’s wife.
