Likes Como Unobstructed As a Perry Como fan of long stand¬ ing, I am delighted to see him on TV. But that chorus has got to go! They have nice voices for background singing, but they clutter up the stage—too many peo¬ ple running around. Perry is at his best singing solo, or with a trio. By the way, what happened to the Fon- tane Sisters? They were the best trio on TV, better than Godfrey’s McGuire Sisters.— Mrs. Marguerite Shazv, Tren¬ ton, N.J. [As reported here last week, the Fontane Sisters left the Como pro¬ gram to concentrate on personal appear¬ ances and recordings .— Ed.] Perry Como Grayson Fan I think the new singer, Larry Gray¬ son, who has appeared on Don Mc¬ Neill’s Breakfast Club and who filled in for Ken Carson on the Garry Moore Show recently, is sensational. He’s tops in my book and in many others. Let’s see him on more TV shows.— Faith Napoli, The Bronx, N. Y. Numbers Game Please help me solve a great TV mys¬ tery, namely: the code letters and sym¬ bols attached to products advertised on TV. Pray, what are V-7, WD-9, M-3, GL-70 and TCP? I’m GNA-35 (Going Nuts at 35) trying to figure out this rash of symbols.— Adam Zerodowski, South River, N. J. Fast Answer I think Arthur Godfrey and His Friends is one of the most entertaining shows on television, yet our local sta¬ tion (WSVA-TV) carries only the first half of the program. The performers do only one number each night, therefore we do not have the opportunity of seeing each member of the program. I hope you can do something to help us get the full hour show on channel (3).— Wanda Driver, Timberville, Va. [WSVA-TV anticipated your request. They’ve sched¬ uled the show for an hour. —Ed.] It's Joan's Sister Would you tell me if Gloria Blondell who is in the cast of Life of Riley, is a sister of movie actress Joan Blondell? —Irene Malinozvski, Phila.—[Gloria is Joan’s younger sister .— Ed.] Dislikes Daly's Line It’s too bad so many entertainers on TV appear to show off. One of the worst, John Daly of What’s My Line?, does not achieve his desire to appear intelli¬ gent and witty. In¬ stead, in his attempt to display his large vocabulary and wit, he thoughtlessly gives away many of the an¬ swers. His purpose should be to assist the contestant in stumping the panelists, not aiding 'the panelists excessively as he frequently does.— Don Boonk, Lynchburg, Va. John Daly A-4
