Harold Mortlake has stage-managed and played a great variety of juvenile, character and Jewish comedy parts in a large number of plays of all types and periods, scoring many personal successes in London as well as in the English provinces and in South Africa. Within the liniits of the available space it is not possible to mention more than a very few of the stage productions in which Harold Mortlake has made his reputation. These include: "We Modems", "Merely Mary Ann", "Too Much Money", "The Spider", "A DolFs House", "The King of Schnorrers", "Vile Bodies", "Rope", "Bees and Honey", "Street Seena", "Cyrano de Bergerac". "The Safety Match", "Crime", "The Dybbuk", "Monna Vanna", "Pygmalion", "Hamlet" and other Shakespeare an plays, "On the Spot", "Murder on the Second Floor", etc. etc. etc. Played Nathan in all three versions — English, French and German — of A. E. Dupont's film "Two Worbis", and other prominent parts. Harold Mortlake, auch als Regisseur tätig, hat in einer Unzahl der verschiedenartigsten Stücke sich in London, der Provinz und in Südafrika als Interpret jugendlicher, Charakter und jüdischer Lustspielrollen reichen Erfolg geholt. Went on the stage in 1923 and secured his first London engagement in the same year, to appear in "Storni" at the Ambassador's Theatre. Since then he has played principal parts. both in London and the provinces. in a very large number of plays of various types. including "And so to Bed", "The House of the Arrow". "Dr. Knock", "Loyalties", "Justice", etc. etc. Achieved his first great personal success as the charming and distinguished Marquis of Shayne in "Bitter Sweet" and immediately afterwards scored a notable hit in an entirely different type of part, that of an artist, in "Marry at Leisure". with Marie Tempest. Attracting the attention of film producers, he was engaged to create the part of the young Guards Officer in the talkie "Gaste", followed by that of the elderly French Ambassador in the Paramount talkie "Stamboul". Erstes Auftreten im Jahre 1923 und sofortiges Engagement für ..Storm" am AmbassadorTheater. Seit dieser Zeit spielte er größere Rollen in London und in der Provinz in den verschiedensten Stücken, z. B. in ..And so to Bed", ..The House of the Arrow", „Dr. Knock". .Xoyalties". und .Justice". Seinen ersten großen Erfolg hatte Alan Napier in der Rolle des liebenswürdigen und vornehmen Marquis of Shayne in „Bitter Sweet" und gleich darauf mit einer ganz entgegengesetzten Figur als Maler in ..Marry at Leisure". wo er Marie Tempest zur Partnerin hatte. Der Film wurde auf ihn aufmerksam; Alan Napier wurde für die Rolle des jungen Wachoffiziers in ..Gaste" und dann von der Paramount für den ältlichen französischen Gesandten in ..Stamboul" verpflichtet.
