Cyril Ritchard arrived from Australia in New York in January, 1925, and almost immediately secured a contract to play juvenile lead with Elsie Janis in Dillingham"s production of "Puzzles of 1925". At the end of the same year he went to London and, his American reputation having preceded him, was given engagement after engagement to play juvenile lead in uiusical couiedy at leading Westend theathres, including the Gaiety, where, during three years, he scored hits in "Love Lies", "The Love Race and "The Millionaire Kid". While thus engaged he attracted the attention of A. E. Dupont, the famous German film director, and was chosen to play an important part in "Piccadilly", his first and last silent film. Shortly afterwards he played in "Blackniail", produced by British International Pictures, and thus shares with a few other performers the distinction of ha\äng appeared in the first talking film made in England.
Cyril Ritchard proved no less successful in the new medium than in the old. and has since played important parts in other talking films, including the Gainsborough production "Just for a Song", in which he played the villain, and the talkie version of "A Symphony in Two Fiats*', in which he played the Other Man. with Benita Hume and Ivor Novello. Cyril Ritchard is also the fortunate possessor of an extremely pleasant baritone voice. His latest talking film is "Service for Ladies", in which he plays the part of Sir William Carter.
