After six years with Fred Terry, he began to produce plays by Strindberg, Bernard Shaw, Srhnitzler, Tchekov, Ibsen, etc. in London and New York. Made bis first film. For niany years he was principal director of the Stoll Compiiny, producing on the Continent as well as in England. Later he held a similar position with Gauniont in London and also directed a nuniber of films for the Fox Company in Hollywood and has filmed in Paris and Berlin. His earlier pictures include "When Knights Were Bold". "Florence Nightingale". "A Long Way to Tipperary", "The FruitfuI Vine" and "Mr. Wu". More recent pictures: "The Flag Lieutenant". "Hindle Wakes", "Roses of Picardy". "Balaclava". "High Treason", "The School for Scandal", "Sally in Our Alley" (Gracie Fields), "Frail Women", "A Monastery Garden". Walter Forde is one of the most distinguished British film directors and has to his credit a large number of successful pictures. As a stage actor of considerable experience, he became a screen comedian. and afler scoring important successes in that capacity, he wem to America and had two years' directorial work at the Hollywood Studios. Returning to England, he starred in and directed a series of comedies. induding "What Next?" and "Would You Believe It?". Then he became a director of serious talking films. "The Last Hour". "The Ringer". "Bed and Breakfast", "Lord Richard in the Pantry", "Third Time Lucky". "The Ghost Train". "Splinters in the Navy" and "Jack O'Lantern" were all made by Walter Forde during the past two years. He has ins", completed "Lord Babs". All the above mentioned films have one very important feature in common: they have all been commercial successes.
