Leslie S. Hiscott first went into film? as an actor in Italy in 1919. In 1920 he joined Stoll Productions, Ltd.. as a scenario Avriter and suhsequently became assistant director, in which capacity he has also worked for ^ elsh Pearson, Ltd. Later he acted as assistant director to George Fitzniauiice iFamous Players. Paraniountl. John Robertson I Paraniountl, and Graham Cutts ( Gainsborough I , and was associated in the production of countless silent screen successes. He has made pictures in Rome, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen. as well as in England, and is an accomplished linguist. Since the advent of the talkies he has directed a large number of productions in that medium, including "At the Villa Rose", "The House of the Arrow", "The Sleeping Cardinal", '"Black Coffee", "Alibi", "A Night in Montmartre". "Murder in Convent Garden", etc.. securing a {»roniinent place among British film directors not merely as a maker of box-office successes, but also as an exponent of the artistic side of film production. The ruthless self-criticisni which led him to abandon filmacting he also applies to Iiis present activities. with the result that he never fails to make the most of a Story or a cast. At present Leslie Hiscott is on the permanent staff of Twickenham Film Studios. LESLIE S. Als er sich selbst auf der Leinwand sah. erkannte er mit der ihm eigenen scharfen Selbstkritik, daß die Filmdarstellung nicht sein „Metier" sei, und wandte deshalb seine Tätigkeit der technischen Seite der Filmproduktion zu. 1920 trat er in die Stoll Production Ltd. als Drehbuchautor ein und wurde gleich darauf Hilfsregisseur, welche Stellung er auch bei \^ elsh Pearson Ltd. bekleidete. Kurz darauf finden wir ihn als Assistenten neben George Fitzmaurice I Famous Players, Paramountl, John Robertson (ParamountI, Maurice Tourneur (Metro Goldwyn ) und Graham Cutts ( Gainsborough I : er war so beteiligt an zahllosen Erfolgen des stummen Films. Leslie S. Hiscott arbeitete sowohl in England als auch in Rom, Paris. Berlin und Kopenhagen, wobei ihm sein großes Sprachtalent sehr zu statten kam. Seit der Geburt des Tonfilms leitete er die Aufnahme einer großen Anzahl von Werken dieser Kunstgattung, wie „At the Villa Rose", „The House of the Arrow", „The Sleeping Cardinal", .,Black Coffee", „Alibi", „A Night in Montmartre", „Murder in Covent Garden" usw., und sicherte sich so einen prominenten Platz unter den englischen Filmregisseuren, nicht nur als flacher von reinen Kassenerfolgen, sondern auch als Vorkämpfer für den künstlerischen Film.
