Kay Hammond began and completed her training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art as recently as the year 1927. Thereafter she played all types of roles for a time, finally settling down to leading comedy parts, in which she has scored considerable successes. An engagement with the London Repertory Company was followed by a period of understudying in "'Potiphar's Wife'\ "77, Park Lane" and '"Beauty", after which Kay Hammond was given her first big chance by Auriol Lee in "Nine tili Six" at the Apollo Theatre. This first decisive personal hit led to still bigger chances, including leading comedy parts in "The Last Chapter", with Owen Nares, and '"Dance with no Music", and an important comedy part in C. B. Cochran's famous production of "Evergreen". Since the screen always enlists the pick of the theatrical profession, what more natural than that Kay Hammond should have been selected for a series of big pictures as soon as she was available. She played important parts in no fewer than seven screen productions in 1931 including the British International productions of "Fascination" and "Out of the Blue" and the British and Dominions features „Carnival", "Almost a Divorce ' and "A Night Like This". Although Kay Hammond is still at the beginning of her career, she is scaling the ladder of fame at an extraordinarily rapid rate, and has already acquired a small army of f ans among the general public. Diesem ersten großen Erfolg reihten sich andere, z. B. „The Last Chapter" mit Owen Nares, „Dance with no Music" und C. B. Cochrans berühmtes „Evergreen". Auch beim Tonfilm waren ihr große Erfolge beschieden. Im letzten Jahr spielte sie in nicht weniger als sieben Stücken: „Fascination" (British International Pictures), „Out of the Blue", „Camival", „Almost a Divorce", „A Night Like This" usw. Diese junge und so außerordentlich begabte Schauspielerin blickt erst auf eine verhältnismäßig kurze Künstlerlaufbahn zurück, hat aber schon ein gutes Stück Weges zur Höhe hinter sich.
