Elsie Wagstaff was trained at the London Guildhall School of Music and won the L. G. S. M. for elocution and other gold niedals. She played her first lead in "The Optimist", portraying a French girl. Played lead in "The Creaking Chair" in a Nr. 1 touring Company, and appeared with Ethel Irving in a French part in a revised Version of "East Lynne". Scored an exceptional success as Sadie Thompson in "Rain" on tour. Toured South Africa with Dennis Neilson-Terry and Mary Glynne, playing second lead in "The Scarlet Pimpernel", "The Cat and the Canary", "The Man with a Load of Mischief" and "The Ringer". Went to America in 1927 to play leads at Boston, in "On the Hiring Line", "Murray Hill" and "The Idealist". Played in "Diversion" at the 49th Street Theatre, New York. Played 2"<l lead in "The Wrecker" at the Gort Theatre there, and in "The Captive" in Detroit. Returned to England with "Red Fire", in which she starred. Appeared in "Gentlemen of the Jury" at the Arts Theatre and was later starred with O. B. Clarence and Laura Smithson in "The Man Who Missed It", at the Strand Theatre. Toured as lead in "Symphony in Two Fiats". Made a notable personal hit in Edward Dagnal's "Black Dawn" on tour. 1931, played in repertory at Reading and scored great personal triumphs in "Sunshine House" and other plays. Weitere Erfolge in NewYork: „Diversion" im 49th Street Theater, „The Wrecker" im CortTheater; in Detroit: „The Captive": nach England zurückgekehrt : „Red Fire". „Gentlemen of the Jury" am Arts-Theater und zusammen mit O.
