Dann wirkte er vier Jahre hindurch in führenden Rollen an Londoner Westendtheatem, in Stücken, wie „The New Sin", „The Stranger in the House", „To What Red Hell", „The Village", „The Squall", „The Berg", „The Silent Witness" und „Living Together". Ende 1930 spielte er in seinem ersten Film „Brown Sugar" und hat seit dieser Zeit in einer ganzen Reihe von Filmen Hauptrollen übernommen, so z. B. in „The Flying Fool", „The House Opposite" und „Life Goes On".
