Der Künstler ist in Neuseeland geboren, wo er sich zum Architekten ausbildete. Nach 334 Jahren Kriegsdienst begann er seine Bühnenlaufbahn unter Sir Herbert Tree am His Mayesly's Theater; später tritt er auf als Partner von Irene Vanbrugh in „The Land of Promise", von Gertrude Elliot in „Eyes of Youth". Ferner als „Brutus" neben dem „.4ntony" Henry Ainley's. Führende Rollen in sechs verschiedenen Stücken bei Matheson Lang, als jugendlicher Liebhaber in Cairo, neben Evelyn Laye in „Cleopatra" (genaueres über seine Bühnentätigkeit siehe in „Who's Who in the Theatre"). Gefilmt hat er in Hollywood. London. Berlin. Sevilla, Nizza, Rom, Cairo usw. Führende Filmrollen in „Comin' Thro' the Rye". ..Three Passions", „Three Live Ghosts", als Doktor und Gladstone in „Disraeli". Hauptrollen in „Return of Dr. Fu Manchu", in ..Lloyd of C. I. D.", neben Adolphe Menjou in „Diamond Cut Diamond". Kürzlich gab er den Schatzkanzler in ..Wings over Europe" im GlobeTheater, London.

Dann gab er den Patrick Battie in „The Breadwinner" am Vaudeville, spielte in 350 Aufführungen von „Autumn Crocus" am Lyric, ferner die männliche Hauptrolle in „While Parents Sleep" am Royalty (300 Vorstellungen), sowie den Michael Service in „Service" am Wyndhams. Er wirkte in einer Reihe von Filmen mit, u. a. in „Birds of Prey" (A. R. P.), „The Lodger" (Twickenham) und „The Good Companions" (Gaumont British).
