Rank-Shad Tie I The J. Arthur RanfcWJTg’s plan to . move into the U. S. disk business | scene via a tieup with B&bby Shad blew up last week. Thfr Rank-Shad J agreement on the venture, which would have had latter prexy- j ing the Rank Record Corp. of . America, was terminated by mutual consent. Shad and John Davis, managing director of the Rank org, had worked out an understanding late last December but it was never .fi¬ nalized. It’s understood that Shad decided to bow out of the deal to concentrate on his own indie disk operation with the Time and Shad labels. Rank Records is now replanning its U. S. activities and a new af¬ filiation is in view. It’s already been reported that Rank is inter¬ ested in a U. S. tie to insure the British end of Rank a steady sup¬ ply of .U. S. releases and also to give the British disks a kick, off point in the U. S. «. Shad, meantime, is planning to expand his own disk setup. A sales manager will be added within thb next two weeks and the first LPs will start hitting the market early this month. The LP bow will b« made with releases by the Bell Notes and songstress Dodo Greene
