F1TZPATRICK BROADWAY STORY (Continued from page If) Saturday: "Peer Gynt," Shubert; "The Adding Machine," Comedy; "Papa Joe," Lyric, and "Secreta," Fulton. It la virtually sure that other* wiN follow suit. The Ethi- opian Art Theatre can hardly go further at th% Frazee. Last week it ness la the aubway circuit last week, getting $13,200 at the PJ« veria. "Lightnin'a" first week of A proposed run at the Broad Street* Newark, drew strong returns for A total of 111.600. "Blossom Time,'* playing A repeat date at the Bronx opera house, drew $12,000, which is good for that house. "Flrea of Spring," a new play tried at the Majestic, Brooklyn, failed to attract attention and grosaed less than $1,500. Cloaings Chop Cut Rates Seven attractions closing on Broadway last week lessened the number of shows that were offered at bargain prices, so that the list for the current week contained but 22. The closings that occur the coming Saturday night will make further in* roads on the bargain offerings. How- ever, the demand is still strong for attractions at popular prices, espe- cially as the out-of-town buyers that are coming in have seen none of the current attractions, and the New York houses have got into the) habit of shopping at the cut-rata counters before going to the box ofi floss and the advance agencies. IB the advance Agencies there are 17 attractions on outright buy this Week. The Al Jolson "Bombo" show on- its return for four weeks to the Winter Garden got a buy of 400 seats a night for the entire engagement. The agents were given the impres- sion that the show was to be $3.20 before the buy, and after they agreed to take the seats the pries was rhoved up to $3.85 box office on them. However, the demand the first two days of the week was strong for the show. "Dew Drop Inn," the new musical comedy star- ring James Barton, which opens to* night (Thursday) at the Aator for a summer run, got a four weeks' tfuy of 300 a night with a 26 per cent, return.. During the week the agents also renewed on rSeventh Heaven," at the Booth, for eight Additional weeks. The buy list checked on Tueaday showed the following: "Caroline" (Ambassador), "Dew Drop Inn" (Aator), "The Comedian" (Belasco), "Seventh Heaven" (Booth). "Wild* flower" (Casino). "Merton of the Movies" (Cort), "Rain" (Blliott), "Zander the Great" (Empire). "Jack , and Jill" (Globe), "So This Is Lion- don 1" (Hudson), "Little Nellie Kel- ly" (Liberty), "Polly Preferred'^ (Uttle). "Music Boh Revue" (Muelo Box), "Ziegfeld Follies" (Amster- dam), "Mary the Id" (30th Street), "The Fool" (Times Sq.) and "Bom- bo" (Winter Garden). On the bargain counter the offer* ings included "Caroline" (Ambaasa* dor), "How Come?" (Apollo). "Ton and I" (Belmont), "Uptown West" (Bijou). "Whispering Wires'* (Baoadhurst), "Sally, Irene and Mary" (Century), "Barnum Was Right" (Cohan). "The Adding Ma* chine" (Comedy), "Go Go" (Daly's). Ethiopian Art Theatre (Praafee). "Secrets" (Fulton), "Icebound" (Harris), "Clinging Viae" (Knicker- bocker), "For Value Received" (Longacre). "How Come" the other colored troupe on 42nd street is a steady loser, and liable te leave at any time. The several premieres and second engagements for next week are gambles with the weather. "Cold Feet" enters the Pulton, "Not So Fast" takes the Morosco (dark this week) and "Aren't We All" relights the Gaiety, while two companies of "Blossom Time" will be brought) In, playing the Shubert and 44th Street respectively, and the Moscow Art Theatre will start a supplementary two weeks' at Jolson's before sail- ing home. ■ "Bombo," also a second engage- ment, opened a month's stay at the Winter Garden Monday, a big de- mand developing 'in the agencies, although the Al Jolson show is playing at $3.50 top now, as against $3 when it first was offered on Broadway. "Dew Drop Inn," a new musical for the Astor, was set for Thursday premiere, while "Sweet Nell of Old Drury," with Laurette Taylor, was postponed at the 48th Street until Friday night. "The Mountebank" got a little less than $6,000 at the Lyceum and is not fated for a run, nor is "For Value Received," which Is being sustained by cut rates at the Longacre after playing to less than $4,000 its first week. The other recent arrivals are entirely out of the picture. "The Rivals" .drew big business because announced for one week only at the 48th Street, and has been moved to the Earl Carroll for a possible ex- tension of several weeks more. "Wildflpwrr" lias mnilo a sensa- tional increase at the Casino and is now rat««l one of the biggest musi- cal successes of the season. Its con- tinued improvement has been noted from time to time, but last week's Jump of $1,200 over the week pre- vious was not expected, even by the management. The Kansas City Theatre, the guild organisation, closed its first season with "The Marriage of Kitty,'* at the Grand, Kansas City recently. Started last fall, by A little group of dramatic lovers, who thought this city was to be passed up by the eastern bookers, as tha Shuberts units were headed for the Shubert theatre, the organization has steadily grown until It now has 152 members, who paid their sub- scriptions this year. An attempt will be* made to in- crease the membership to 1,000 or 3,000 which will Insure the success of the coming season. Probably no other local organization of enter- tainment lovers, here, ever had such unanimous support of theclty press ns has been given the Kansas City Theatre.
