JOLSON, AL, Comedian
Although Al Jolson was well tnownd as a black-faced comedian before he joined the Winter Garden Company, the opportunities afforded him at that house made New York realize that here was one of the best comedians ever heard on Broadway.
One of Mr. Jolson’s greatest gifts is his really wonderful enunciation—no matter how quietly he speaks, every syllable is heard in the farthest corner of the theatre. This is one reason why the Victor representative, after hearing him sing “‘Rum Tum Tiddle” and ** That Haunting Melody,” promptly asked the comedian if he would like to make some Victor records. He consented, and his first engagement resulted in several records which are irresistibly amusing. JOLSON
