Weber taught by mother, opera singer, and father, fine musician. At 10; pupil of Heuschkel and choir boy at Salsburg. Moved Munich, published first composition, set of fugues, then a mass, and at-12 wrote an opera never produced. At 13 his opera Waldmadchen was sung. A\fter further study appointed conductor Breslau Theatre. At 18 Musik-Intendant to Duke of Wurtemberg. After period of fast living was imprisoned and banished for selling court appointment. Went Darmstadt, produced two operas, then after concert tour engaged to reorganize Prague opera. Married Caroline Brandt, . WEBER actress. Freischtitz,greatest opera, produced 1821. with immense success. In 1825, although warned against English climate, he went to London to produce his operas and died there 1826. In spite of early wildness, was afterward’ model husband and father. Weber considered father of German opera, and was creator of the Romantic school, of which his Freischiitz, 1821, furans ‘1823, and Oberon, key are good examples.
