__ VICTOR RECORDS | Number | 5} Price BURBECK, FRANK, American Actor
This sterling actor is quite well known to theatre-goers, both in America and England. For nearly a quarter of a century his name has been prominent in the leading dramatic productions— Robson and Crane, the Boston Museum Company in its palmy days, Dion Boucicault, Maude Adams’ productions of Twelfth Night and Joan of Arc at Harvard University, etc.; and he has for many years been a valued member of the Frohman staff.
The Victor has secured the exclusive record services of Mr. Burbeck, and now offers the first five of a series of great orations and famous recitations which he is to make.
The three Shakespearean excerpts are nobly delivered by Mr. Burbeck—we think it quite safe to say that no actor now on the stage could surpass his rendering of these celebrated orations. The delightful Riley poem and a famous old toast are both gracefully spoken by this versatile and genial actor.

This great genius, beloved of every Scotchman, was born January 25, 1759, near Ayr, and died at Dumfries in 1796. His songs are as fresh to-day as in their youth—“ age cannot wither nor custom stale them.’ Burns’ verse has all the qualities that insure permanence—pathos, passion, grace, melody, naturalness, and never was there so unaffected an utterance, never simplicity more charming. There is no obscurity in his verse; all that he wrote is as clear to the mind and sense as the note of a bird, the fragrance of a flower.
We all know the pathos and sweetness of Bonnie Doon and wd Highland Mary, the chastening influence of John Anderson, My Jo, BURNS and the animated sentiment of Auld Lang Syne. Each one who may hear the records of these songs of love and sentiment will not think that they were written a century ago. They will seem to him as a matter of course and his heart will beat with an emotion over which time has no power, for love and truth and beauty are as changeless as the stars.
