George Hamlin is one of the most thoroughly satisfactory artists before the public, and has fairly won his nght to be called one of the greatest of American tenors. His beautiful voice is familiar to the concert-goers of America and Europe, and his recitals in Chicago are features of the musical life of that city.
To attempt to give a list of the successes earned by him it would be necessary to recall almost every important oratorio production and musical festival of the past few years. During the past season Mr. Hamlin has been singing with the PhiladelphiaChicago Opera Company and has made a great success of the tenor role in Natoma.
The countless admirers of this sterling tenor will be delighted with the fine list of numbers which are catalogued here. Mr. Hamlin sings exclusively for the Victor.

HANDEL, GEORG FRIEDRICH (1685-1759)
Born Halle, 1685. Father a barber, afterward valet to Prince Saxe. He was intended for lawyer but secretly studied harpsichord. At 7 went to visit at Court where Prince heard him playing organ, and offered to educate him. In 1696 went to Berlin where precocity astonished all. Father died 1697. Handel entered Halle University and played organ at $50 year salary. In 1703 went to Hamburg, and in 1705 wrote two operas. Visited Italy in 1706 and brought out two Italian operas, Roderigo and Agrippina. Went England in 1710, produced Rinaldo, first English opera. Revisited England in § 1718 and became chapel master to Duke of Chandos—composed HANDEL first oratorios, Esther, Acis and Salatea. Director Royal Academy Music, 1720 to 1729, producing many operas. Became Bntish subject 1726. Operatic troubles ruined health, causing paralysis 1837. Partially recovered end in 1741 abandoned opera and turned wholly to oratorio, writing in quick succession Saul, Israel, L’ Allegro, and in 1742 his immortal Messiah, greatest of oratorios, followed by Samson, Judas, Joshua and many others. In 1752 became practically blind, but continued to direct his works until 1759, when he died. Buried in Westminster Abbey, where monument has been erected. Was the greatest master of oratorio. Other wmitings numerous, including 40 operas, none of which are now performed.
