; ORPHEUS QUARTET—Male Voices ORGAN RECORDS—Continued It is now more than two hundred years since the first pipe organ was installed in a Boston church. It was a very crude affair, called by someone a “box of whistles,” and much opposition was aroused, the organ being considered a device of the devil! It is a long step from the little Brattle Square Church organ to the complex modern instrument, with its hundreds of pipes of all dimensions and its pneumatic and electric actions, so sensitive that a breadth of air will almost suffice to depress a key. The Estey Pipe Organ was used in these experiments through the kindness of the makers. Both selections were rendered on the same instrument, the ‘‘ Funeral March” being played by Richard K. Biggs, organist of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, in the usual manner, using the organ keys; and the “Hallelujah Chorus” rendered. by Mr. McAIl, who uses the Estey Automatic device. The Victor is sure its customers will enjoy these beautiful reproductions of the pipe organ, and hopes to offer other records in a short time.
