VICTOR RED SEAL RECORDS
McCORMACK, JOHN, Tenor Nic The rise to fame of this young tenor 13 one of the most remarkable incidents in the history of opera.
Ten years ago McCormack was entirely unknown to the musical world. He was born in Athlone, and grew up and went through college without discovering that he had a voice of more than usual merit. But one day he was induced to compete at the Dublin Musical Festival, where competitions in singing are held and medals granted to the most proficient. McCormack astonished himself and friends by carrying off the first prize.
The tenor then gave several concerts, and with the proceeds went to Italy to study. After a number of appearances in Italian cities, he returned to London in 1907 and was engaged for Covent Garden, making his London / début as Turiddu on October 15th. A few weeks later MGCORMACK he sang in Rigoletto with Mme. Tetrazzini, who was delighted with his beautiful voice and gave him much advice and assistance, with the result that he was engaged for the season. His succeeding triumphs at Covent Garden and in America are familiar to all, and his recent tour of Australia was literally a series of ovations.
Feeling that only the Victor was able to faithfully reproduce his voice, Mr. McCormack has entered into an exclusive agreement to make records for the Victor Company until February, 1938.
