BONUS WINNERS SINCE OUR LAST ISSUE | guess what with the holidays, new payrolls, new T 24 sheets and all, the past few weeks have been kind of rugged. LOU LOBB maestro of the Met in Regina, with an assist from Wilf Runge came up with one terrific campaign in support of their THRILL-ARAMA FIVE SHOW at the Met and Queen City Drive-In. Lots of unusual gimmicks and loads of help from the local Rock ‘N Roll station and news paper. ROLPHE REINHARDT who runs the Strand in Edmonton did a bang-up job on JONIKO, highlight of which was the promotion of a free trip to Alaska through the co-operation of a local cleaner and Radio Station C HE D. LES HAWLEY while manager of the Odeon in Brantford...he has since been moved to the Capitol in Kingston...hit a very high triple. No. |, promotion of over $200.00 worth of radio time. No. 2, three very profitable morning rentals during Xmas week. No. 3, Quick thinking which resulted in the sales of $700.00 worth of children’s gift tickets to the local Safety Traffic Department. A.C. HARTSHORN top man at the Regent in Oshawa for his promotion of a full-page co-op in the Oshawa Journal in support of his engagement of THE LOVE BUG’ J.P. ANDRE COTE more readily identified as ‘Andy’ for a terrific tie-up with the Canadian Amateur Ski Association in support of his engagement of DOWNHILL RACER Resulted in much gratis T.V. and Radio coverage. BILL NOVAK who calls the Met in Winnipeg ‘‘Home”’ for a very outstanding selling job on THE LOVE BUG. The Disney people were so impressed that they sent along their own little token of appreciation. DAVID VAN NORMAN, ‘Van’ to his friends, runs the Capitol in Sarnia and came up with a double. The first for his promotion of three very profitable morning rentals during Xmas. week, and the second for his valuable help in straightening out some of our real estate problems in the city. DON DICKERSON head man of the twinauditorium Pen Centre Cinemas in St. Catharines for a most effective selling job on BATTLE OF BRITAIN. Campaign book contains too many items to detail at this time. REG DUTTON of the Calgary Place Theatres in Calgary rented his theatre to the Head Ski Company for the opening night of DOWNHILL RACER, and held special screenings for various ski shops, sports writers and announcers, to wind up with a tidy gross on his engagement. EARL MORTIMORE manager of the Roxy in Barrie went all out in his promotion on ROMEO AND JULIET, tying in all local secondary schools, men’s wear stores, and radio and newspaper tie-ups for free time and space. DON KINLOCH the man in charge of our Lincoln in St. Catharines didn’t miss a trick when it came to selling his engagement of EASY RIDER. His efforts sure showed up in the grosses. NOEL FRAYNE manager of the Park Royal Twin Theatres in West Vancouver for a most effective campaign in support of his CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL. Highlight was a Fire Department display featuring a completely restored 1928 fire eng ine. KEN MacKENZIE who runs the Paramount in St. John ran a special Santa Claus show, and what more natural than to tie up with the local Santa Claus Parade? Result, over 2,000 young ‘uns at his matinee. JACK McNICOL of the Capitol in Vernon, B.C. really went ali out on his date of EXPLOSION. Promoted local pipe band On Opening night in addition to a variety of tie ups with C J 1 B, The National Hotel and the Cam Jammers Car Club. MRS. STELLA CULHANE our gal at the Belle in Belleville asked for a return engagement of ROMEO AND JULIET. contacted every secondary school in a sixty mile radius and jam-packed three matinees. BiLL HOWE the kid who runs our Paramount in Kelowna instituted a ‘Children’s Privilege Card’ to reward those youngsters who behave themselves while in his theatre and prove that they are responsible young citizens, MIKE MECELLI outspoken manager of our Palace in Windsor for a terrific back-up campaign in support of MONTEREY POP’ Highlight was the co-operation extended by the local Steinberg outlet which included theatre copy in daily ads, HOWARD LEVIS who runs the harda-ticket Park in Windsor doesn’t just sit back and wait out a run...he comes up with something new every week. On the 7th week of FUNNY GIRL he arranged a promotion with Mady’s Furniture people which netted him over $800.00 in gratis radio time. PAUL NATALE the man in charge of the Beach in Toronto arranged a special promotion to boost the sale of his large drinks, and succeeded beyond his fondest hopes. The bair was a contest with promoted record albums as prizes. BOB HARVEY Exploiteer extraordinary at our Capitol in North Bay tied in the local Weldon’s Restaurant with his date on APRIL FOOLS and came up with three good-sized co-op ads paid for by Weldon’s. GINO DIVENANZO of the Palace in Toronto used a lot of imagination to promote his Saturday matinee kid’s shows... to excellent results. $100.00 MASTER SHOWMEN Six managers qualified for this special Master Showman award which carries with it a special $100.00 bonus.
