^y^ILFBED VAN NORMAN LUCAS. Born in Ontario, Canada, January 30, |l| 1871. Graduate of McGill College, Montreal, Canada. Played in grand \Ms opera 1888 to 1895, in which year he entered the dramatic field, playing Marcus Vinicius in "Quo Vadis" in the Whitney & Knowles production for two years; then was for three seasons with his own stock company, when he became a stage director for Kirke La Shelle for two years, staging the great comedy, "Heir to the Hoorah," and originating the part of Bud Young, after which Mr. Lucas was for five years with Henry B. Harris as stage director and leading man with Rose Stahl in "The Chorus Lady," originating the part of Dan Mallory. Entered the moving pictures with the Biograph Company under D. W. Griffith at the largest salary up to then paid to a regular motion picture actor. Was with the Biograph Company two years as leading man and one year as director. Then followed engagements as director in turn with the Universal, Keystone, Criterion and back to the Universal, where he is now engaged making special features under brand Gold Seal De Luxe.
