CHARACTER OF STORY....... Twin sisters; one
dies and the other assumes her character to retain fortune for kids PENGTHOUPRODUCTION...... About 5,000 feet Except for a twist a little out of the ordinary at the start of “The Infamous Miss Revell,” this adaptation of. W. Carey Wonderly’s story offers little that is unusual or suspensive in the dual role type of melodrama. For the most part the story, which comes down to a plain sort of romance, the sole point of interest in which is the mistaken identity of the heroine, resolves itself into a rather tedious and close-up-glutted picture.
Presumably the director and editor thought it necessary to run an unusually large number of star closeups to differentiate the dual role. However, many of these are altogether superfluous and they have a habit of slowing up the progress of the story that is disconcerting to say the least.
Besides the story itself seems of a particularly obxious character. Once the main situation is established there is little in the way of dramatic suspense to
come to the spectator’s rescue.
Alice Lake appears as both Julien and Paula Revell. They are in hazardous financial circumstances after their father’s death. To earn money for her four younger sisters and brothers, Julien becomes the nurse and traveling companion to Putnam, a wealthy old Putnam
dies and leaves his wealth to Julien on the condition
man, and so earns an infamous reputation.
that she must not marry.
whom the money should go, desiring to get his mother and sister out of want, courts the Revell girl, who now lives with the children. Despite the facts of the case, Max finds himself falling in love with the “infamous” lady. He
Max Hildreth, Putnam’s nephew, to
stops his suit and she, loving him, believes it is her “past” that silences him. She then confesses that she is not Julien but Paula, that Julien had died and that she usurped her character to retain the money for the children, not knowing that she was depriving others of it. Of course the romance ends happily and the money is equally divided.
Miss Lake does pleasing, work in the two roles and receives adequate support from Cullen Landis, Jack Saunders, Lydia Knott, Herbert Standing, Alfred Hollingsworth and the four child players.
