A. M. P. I. (National Association) shows that nearly 100 measures relative to censorship were introduced in 37 states during 1921. In 33 of these states all this legislation was defeated. Bills were passed in New York, Massachusetts and Florida. In Florida all pictures passed by the National Board of Review are acceptable to the state. In Massachusetts a referendum will he voted upon by the people of the state in November, 1922, to determine whether or not the censorship legislation passed shall stand. * California : Three bills defeated. Colorado : Bill died in committee. Connecticut : Two bills defeated in Senate. Delaware : Bill not reported when legislature adjourned. District of Columbia : Proposed censorship defeated. Several new regulations adopted denning type of pictures considered fit for exhibition. Florida : Reported above. Idaho: Bill defeated in committee. Illinois: Two bills submitted. Legislature adjourned without action. Chicago : Police supervision defeated. Indiana: Six bills introduced but action taken upon none excepting where they were defeated in either the House or the Senate. Iowa: Bill died in Senate after passing House. Connecticut : Bill seeking to repeal present statute covering local option upon questino of Sunday exhibition defeated before Judiciary Committee of legislature. Colorado : Bill seeking repeal law and legalized Sunday exhibitions died in committee, but existing bill is practically inoperative. Ohio : Effort to secure legalized Sunday exhibition failed'. District of Columbia : Measure introduced by Senator Myers, Montana, to prevent Sunday showings, not acted upon by Oct. 1, and bill expected to die. A number of small towns throughout the country, especially in California, Nebraska and New Jersey, have adopted Sunday closing measures. 191
